Meet the Jaques Family

By Nancy Jaques

The Jaques Family
The full Jaques clan, taken in September 2015. Left to right: Tyler, Beth (our daughter), Stetson (Emily's son), Dick, Nancy, Wyatt, Kara, Matt (our son), Emily (our daughter), Eleni, & Brian

Dick and I met at Kansas State University through our involvement with Christian Challenge. After dating for two and a half years, the Lord led us to be married on May 7, 1983. Some verses the Lord used through our dating and engagement years were:

Psalm 73:25-26,

Whom have I in heaven but you?  And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Psalm 20:7,

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

and Psalm 115,

Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!

Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?”
Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases.

Their idols are silver and gold, the work of human hands.
They have mouths, but do not speak; eyes, but do not see.
They have ears, but do not hear; noses, but do not smell.
They have hands, but do not feel; feet, but do not walk; and they do not make a sound in their throat.
Those who make them become like them; so do all who trust in them.

O Israel, trust in the Lord! He is their help and their shield.
O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord! He is their help and their shield.
You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord! He is their help and their shield.

The Lord has remembered us; he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron;
he will bless those who fear the Lord, both the small and the great.

May the Lord give you increase, you and your children!
May you be blessed by the Lord, who made heaven and earth!

The heavens are the Lord's heavens, but the earth he has given to the children of man.
The dead do not praise the Lord, nor do any who go down into silence.
But we will bless the Lord from this time forth and forevermore.
Praise the Lord!

A year before, following graduation, Dick joined the Christian Challenge staff and remained on staff until 1988. During our first years in Manhattan, we were blessed with our first two children, Matt and Emily. Following our wonderful years in the Little Apple, the Lord led us to Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon. During seminary we continued to minister to college students and were involved with a young church working with small groups. Upon graduation we moved across the Columbia River to Vancouver, Washington to plant a church where Dick served as the Associate Pastor. Soon after planting the church, we had our third child, Bethany.  During these years, we began camping as a family and with our friends. We also loved hiking together.

In 1992 we moved to Norman, Oklahoma for Dick to join staff to minister to college students at the University of Oklahoma. We were blessed to ministered to students for 20 years there and the final four years helped with another church plant. Three years before the Lord led us to New Hope, Dick became co-pastor with the friends we planted the church with in Norman.

In the summer of 2011, our lives were filled with the joy of Matt marrying Kara and two weeks later Emily marrying Brian. With great excitement, Beth married Tyler in October 2014. Matt and Kara have a son, Wyatt born March 2014. Matt is the motion graphic designer for Sooner Vision at University of Oklahoma and Kara teaches half days with pre-K for Norman Public schools. They were also a part of the church plant in Norman and are involved in a small group. Matt also plays in the worship band. Brian and Emily have a daughter, Eleni, born in May 2012 and Stetson, born in June 2014. Brian works for Williams in Oklahoma City and Emily stays home with their children. They lead a small group at their church and Emily serves as one of the wedding coordinators. Tyler and Beth (our K-State graduate!) left December 30th for four years to work in North Africa. We love being grandparents to our precious three little ones! All our kids and spouses and grandkids also love that they get to come to Manhattan and New Hope to visit!
